Track gym progress: convert between kg, lb, and stones. Most gym equipment lists plates in kg; convert quickly to lbs for mental comparison.
International couriers use both kg and lb. Quickly convert parcel weights to match carrier rate tables and avoid overweight surcharges.
Convert between mg, g, kg, micrograms, and carats. Precise conversion factors for chemistry, pharmacy, and jewelry assays.
Cement bags, steel beams, gravel — all use region-dependent units. Convert between metric tonnes and US short tons for project estimating.
Traveling? European groceries use kg and g; American stores use lb and oz. Understand price-per-weight comparisons instantly.
Multiply the kilogram value by 2.20462. For a quick approximation, multiply by 2.2. Example: 70 kg × 2.20462 ≈ 154.32 lb.
1 lb = 16 oz, and 1 stone = 14 lb. So one stone = 224 ounces = 6.35 kg.
A metric ton (tonne) = 1000 kg. A US short ton = 2000 lb = 907.18 kg. A UK long ton = 2240 lb = 1016.05 kg. The metric ton is the most widely used global standard.
Since 1959, the international yard and pound agreement defined 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg. The reverse (1 kg) is 1 / 0.45359237, which gives the precise value. For almost all practical uses, 2.20462 is accurate enough.
Convert pounds to kg, then convert ounces to kg (divide oz by 35.274) and sum them. Example: 5 lb 8 oz = 5×0.4536 + 8×0.02835 = 2.268 + 0.2268 ≈ 2.495 kg.
